Portable DVD Player

This gadget, also called PDP in short, generally refers to any compact and lightweight device used for playing of digital video discs (DVD). Created back in 1998, it was made primarily to provide users with the ability to watch motion pictures, such as Hollywood films, away from home. More often than not, a PDP is designed to have an LCD or LED screen attached to them. The most common viewer size is about 7 inches (18 centimetres), although some are as large as about 10 to 12 inches (25 to 30 centimetres).

There are units that have swivel-screens that rotate 180 degrees and fold flat. Transportable DVD players usually have connections for additional screens and a car lighter plug. Some now even come with iPod docks and USB slots built in that can play other formats such as MP4 and DivX from sources like flash memory cards and external hard disks. Wireless connections, either in blue-tooth or Wi-Fi, allow these devices to play and record content from or to other gadgets such as mobile phones. Some of the newer models are now equipped with some handy additional features. These include playing music from audio CDs and displaying images from digital cameras or camcorders.
